Prosecutors announced new charges against a man who kidnapped and sexually assaulted a woman in Northern California. which was originally thought to be a scam and it became known as the “Gone Girl” kidnapping.
Matthew Muller, 47, the man who kidnapped Denise Huskins in Vallejo in 2015, is now charged with two home invasions from 15 years ago.
Muller broke into the homes of women in Palo Alto and Mountain View in 2009 with the intent to rape them. According to the Santa Clara District Attorney’s Office,

Mueller’s DNA was found on the straps he used to tie up one of his victims in a 2009 case, the prosecutor’s office said.
Mueller now faces two misdemeanor counts of sexual assault during a 2009 home invasion if convicted. He could face life in prison. The official said
“The details of this individual’s violent crimes appear to have been written for Hollywood. But it is a sad reality,” said District Attorney Jeff Rosen. “Our goal is to ensure that this defendant is held accountable. and will never harm or terrorize anyone again. We hope this nightmare is over.”
In the early morning hours of September 29, 2009, authorities say Mueller broke into a woman’s Mountain View home, assaulted her, tied her up and made her drink a concoction of drugs. and said he would rape her after the victim, who authorities said was in his 30s, persuaded him to resist. He suggested that the victim get the dog and run away.
Less than a month later, on Oct. 10, on Sept. 18, authorities said Mueller broke into a home in Palo Alto, where he performed the same routine. and bound and gagged a woman in her 30s. He then made her drink Nyquil and began assaulting her before being persuaded to stop. Muller gave the victim crime prevention advice and fled.

The couple married in 2018, released a book about their ordeal in 2021, and welcomed daughters in 2020 and 2022.
