And Illinois isn’t the only state where law enforcement agencies pay turkeys in lieu of traffic violations.
Last year, the McAllen Police Department in McAllen, Texas, hosted Ticket or Turkey.
On the Wednesday before Thanksgiving Officials will hand out turkeys in lieu of tickets.

“Crime Stoppers is an invaluable tool for police departments. But during the holidays It is an expression of our appreciation for our community. McAllen Crime Stoppers is a volunteer citizen fundraising group that pays citizens for information or tips anonymously,” Chief Victor Rodriguez said in a press release.

In a press release, Rudy Placencia added: “We would like to thank our community for helping us prepare turkey dinners for families. We learned throughout the year that most of these families would not enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal if McAllen Crime Stoppers did not raise funds.”
This year, the McAllen Crime Stoppers Board raised money for 250 families in “small ways” for its Turkish food giveaways.
“The McAllen Crime Stoppers Thanksgiving Meal Drive is a heartfelt tradition that brings our community together to help those in need,” said Vanessa Camacho, McAllen Crime Stoppers Board Chair.

Other agencies Nationwide has provided Thanksgiving dinners to community members over the years.
