Police hand out Thanksgiving turkeys in lieu of traffic tickets to street offenders.

“Crime Stoppers is an invaluable tool for police departments. But during the holidays It is an expression of our appreciation for our community. McAllen Crime Stoppers is a volunteer citizen fundraising group that pays citizens for information or tips anonymously,” Chief Victor Rodriguez said in a press release.

This year, the McAllen Crime Stoppers Board raised money for 250 families in “small ways” for its Turkish food giveaways.

“The McAllen Crime Stoppers Thanksgiving Meal Drive is a heartfelt tradition that brings our community together to help those in need,” said Vanessa Camacho, McAllen Crime Stoppers Board Chair.

Other agencies Nationwide has provided Thanksgiving dinners to community members over the years.
