Rep. Kay Granger, R-Texas, lives in a retirement facility. A source told Fox News on Sunday. The source also denied local reports that she was in a memory care facility.
Granger, who is retiring at the end of her parliamentary term. Most have remained absent from parliament in recent months. The final vote was received on July 24. She did not participate with more than 54% of the vote.
at Dallas Express investigating the 81-year-old congresswoman’s absence released a report Friday that cited a member of her district who said Granger was living in a memory care facility in Texas. The report was later picked up by other news agencies.
Fox News spoke with a source from Granger’s office who denied that Granger is in a memory care unit. Sources told Fox News that Granger is in a retirement facility with memory care. Even if they aren’t in a memory care unit.

Granger, who is not seeking reelection in the upcoming term. Has served on the council since 1997. She previously served as the first female mayor of Fort Worth, Texas.
Granger doesn’t appear to have voted since July, though. But she returned to City Hall in November to unveil her portrait as chair of the Appropriations Committee. and the reception that followed Speaker of the House Johnson and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise both spoke at the event.

One senior Republican source told Fox News that Granger did not resign earlier because of the paper-thin GOP House majority.
“Really, we need numbers,” a source told Fox News.
A slim majority poses a challenge for speakers in the 119th Congress, where getting on the ballot could be the difference between success or defeat for Republicans.
Fox News has reached out to Johnson’s office for comment.
Granger’s long absence was blasted by Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., in a post on X.
“Kay Granger’s prolonged absence reveals a problem in a Congress that rewards seniority and connections over merit and ideas,” he wrote. “We have a sclerotic eldership. We need term limits. We need to get a lot of money out of politics. So that a new generation of Americans can run and serve.”

Khanna is one of the few lawmakers who has previously criticized what he called “elderly people.” In May 2023, he called out Democratic Rep. Dianne Feinstein, who was 89 at the time. Feinstein had to resign from her position as her own health problems kept her away from the Capitol. Feinstein died several months later in September 2023.
