“The fact that an Iranian-backed group is targeting the next director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is extremely alarming. Secrets about this attack spread quickly to the news media,” the North Carolina senator wrote in a letter to FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate on Monday.

In response to reports of the hacking attempt, Trump Transition spokesperson Alex Pfeiffer told Fox News Digital, “Kash Patel was an important part of the Trump administration’s first administration’s efforts to counter the Iranian terrorist regime. and will implement President Trump’s policies to protect America from enemies as Director of the FBI”

Republicans asked Abbate several questions, including whether FBI employees shared information about the cyberattack with the media or with third parties who could inform the media.

The FBI told Fox News Digital that it had received the letter. But there were no further comments.
Patel is making the rounds on Capitol Hill and meeting with senators as he looks for support before Trump’s inauguration in January.
