GOP senator questions FBI over report of Iran hacking attempt, Trump pick Kash Patel

“The fact that an Iranian-backed group is targeting the next director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is extremely alarming. Secrets about this attack spread quickly to the news media,” the North Carolina senator wrote in a letter to FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate on Monday.

Republicans asked Abbate several questions, including whether FBI employees shared information about the cyberattack with the media or with third parties who could inform the media.

The FBI told Fox News Digital that it had received the letter. But there were no further comments.

Patel is making the rounds on Capitol Hill and meeting with senators as he looks for support before Trump’s inauguration in January.
