Jennifer Gray and Patrick Swayze’s sex scene in “Red Dawn” was never made into the 1984 film due to excessive use of certain substances.
On Dec. 1, the 20th, Gray was a guest. “The Hollywood Reporter Awards Talk” podcast and recalled smoking “a lot of weed” before filming the scene with a drunk Swayze.
“We are in this sleeping bag. And he was worried or whatever. And he came in his sleeping bag drunk,” Gray told host Scott Feinberg.

“As an actor You’re looking at your everything in the script. And you’re like, OK, I’m running, I’m shooting, I’m running, I’m throwing a grenade, I’m… killing myself with a grenade. But this is the only acting scene I’ve done where I’m not acting,” Gray said of the sex scene.
She calls this shot “It was one of the more gentle scenes. which I think It’s part of the reason I wanted to do this work.”
“In those days I also smoked a lot. So I was very paranoid and I was afraid.”
Gray noted that Swayze “I don’t know his role. Then it was cut off. And they said ‘We’ll come back and reshoot,’ but of course they didn’t.”
The actress said that her actors “Put firecrackers on my door… to tease me”

“I also smoked a lot of weed in those days,” Gray explains. “And I was extremely paranoid, so scared, I didn’t sleep all night. When I went in to film the big love scene My big romantic scene with him I’m very angry because You know, I am self-righteous.”

Gray wants the audience to “Remember that I’m a very young actor…really serious about everything. And it can be a little annoying … because I want to do good.”
After co-starring in “Red Dawn” together, Gray and Swayze appeared in the 1987 film “Dirty Dancing.”
Swayze died in 2009 at the age of 57 from pancreatic cancer. In April, Swayze’s widow, Lisa Niemi Swayze, shared her feelings in the moments after learning her husband had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

While talking population Regarding her partnership with the non-profit organization Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Lisa details what her mindset was like when she heard her husband’s diagnosis.
“It was the worst night of my life,” she told the outlet. “I know (Patrick) said, ‘I’m dead,’ but for me that night, I was lying in the hospital with him on the bed. I felt like a nail had been driven into my coffin. Your life has changed a little. And there was no escaping the reality of that diagnosis, it was terrible.

Lisa went on to explain that when Patrick was diagnosed, “It’s impossible to turn back,” she said, adding that they were happy. “He miraculously survived after 22 months.”

Lisa explains that “One of the things that got (her) through” the period after Patrick’s death in September 2009 was to keep reminding herself that “People do this all the time.”

“And that hurts too because I think ‘This is killing me. The grief is killing me,’” she told People “But you know what? It didn’t kill everyone. If they could I can do it too.”
Five-year survival rate for Pancreatic cancer increased to 13%, according to the American Cancer Society’s 2024 Cancer Facts and Figures. However, Lisa said “We have to do better than that.”
