Outgoing independent West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin slammed some of the advice President Biden received while in office. They argue that such guidance creates a blind spot for the president on inflation. Immigration and Afghanistan
In an appearance on CBS’ “The Takeout” podcast on Friday, Manchin recounted how he tried to convince Biden to work across the aisle on the American Rescue Plan. and how he warned about the dangers of inflation. Had Democrats pursued a plan to extend unemployment benefits through October 2021, only to have the recommendations of 17 Nobel laureates ignored?
“I warned you about that. And I was criticized, as you remember. They told me they had 17 Nobel laureates,” Manchin said, later arguing that they were. “17 Educated Fools” Who Told Biden “What You Want To Hear Because You Paid to them.”
Manchin, who in the early days of Biden’s administration remains part of the Democratic Party It plays a key role in determining how much of a new president’s agenda will pass the Senate.

Democrats hold a majority in the upper chamber throughout Biden’s term. and relying on Vice President Kamala Harris’ tie-breaking vote to pass the administration’s agenda. This means that the cooperation of moderate West Virginia senators is key to passage of many issues.
Manchin ultimately decided not to run for re-election and left the Democratic Party entirely after a decades-long political career in the party, citing the need to be “true” to himself.
“To remain true to myself and remain committed to putting country before party. I therefore decided to register as an independent organization that is not affiliated with any political party. and continues to fight for America’s reasonable majority,” Manchin said in his May 2024 announcement.

During an interview with CBS, Manchin noted that Congress worked in a bipartisan manner with the Trump administration to pass stimulus checks during the early days of the pandemic shutdown. They argue that lawmakers made a “mistake” in taking action. But later realized Pumping a lot of money into the economy “It was a mistake.”
However, Manchin said Biden immediately entered the budget reconciliation process to try to pass the American Rescue Plan through the Senate. This was something that Democratic senators at the time opposed.
“Remember when I stopped and turned it off for about eight or 10 hours? That’s because they extended unemployment benefits and we have an effective vaccine. And then I told him ‘You have a vaccine that works.’ You have people with money because we sent checks to everyone,” Manchin said, adding that he cautioned that after months of lockdowns and multiple rounds of stimulus American spending trends to expand the economy

“Inflation is coming at you hard when you do this. And now you’re still putting people out of work. Because you will need to give them a clear extension until October 2021 of unemployment benefits. And they can’t go back and they can’t threaten to lose their unemployment benefits,” Manchin said. “You’ve got a perfect storm hitting you.”
