San Jose State women’s volleyball player Blair Fleming was named an honorable mention by the Mountain West Conference on Tuesday before the tournament.
Fleming, a transgender woman, led the team in kills during the regular season with 297 and had a team leader with 3.86 kills per set. Brooke Slusser, who sued the school over Fleming, also received honorable mention.

San Jose State is No. 1, No. 2 in the Conference tournament and has a bye to the semifinals. The Spartans finished the season 14-6 overall and 12-6 against Mountain West opponents. Six of their wins were forfeited when the team decided not to play San Jose State.

Two of those teams could end up playing San Jose State in this tournament. Utah State faces Boise State in the quarterfinals. The winner will face San Jose State. But it might end up losing the competition. Neither team has played San Jose State this season. It is likely that Fleming will be included in the team.
It’s unclear if any schools will cancel their conference tournament pairings.

A federal judge also blocked a move to block Fleming from competing in the Mountain West Conference, and an appeals court upheld that decision.
