Richard Gere almost didn’t get a role in the famous movie “Pretty Woman.”
Gere, 75, who plays opposite Julia Roberts in a romantic comedy Tell us why he wasn’t involved with the script in the first place.
At first, Gere admitted that he “didn’t understand” his role as suave and wealthy businessman Edward Lewis.

“There are no characters,” Gere explains in “The Hollywood Reporter awards gibberish.” Podcast “I read this and said, ‘It’s not right for me'”
Gere viewed his “Pretty Woman” character at the time as “just a suit.”
The “The Agency” actor added that he felt “uncomfortable” meeting director Garry Marshall because he had already made up his mind and did not want to be a part of the film.
However, he changed gears after the meeting.
“We started talking about the script. And I said, ‘Look, I don’t see any characters,’” he began to explain.

After Gear initially rejected this part, Marshall convinced him by saying, “You and me, let’s find it,” Gere said.
Roberts, who famously played prostitute Vivienne Ward, had previously starred in “Pretty Woman.” Marshall arranged a meeting between the two so that Gere could impress Roberts.

“I said, ‘She’s lovely, she’s great,’ while I was talking to him. She picked up a post-it note from my desk. And she wrote something down. Then she moved it onto the table for me. and the message said ‘Please say yes,’ and how can you say no?” Gere said.

“We ended up with… Try to find characters there that make sense within the structure and… the essence of that work,” he said.
“Make it genuine, make it charming, make it fun, make it sexy…we all love each other. Good trust We had a wonderful time. And we don’t know that it’s going to be the way it is.”
The 1990 classic has been a hit with fans since its release. Roberts received her second Oscar nomination for her role as Vivian. Gere and Roberts worked together again in 1999’s Runaway Bride.
Gere says that starring in Pretty Woman has been one of his favorite projects for years.
“I’m very proud of that movie and I’m proud of the process that we went into making that movie,” Gere said. “And I’m not only proud. I’m also grateful for that movie. Because it allows me to do other things. Many more as well.”
