New York Times reporter Ezra Klein insists that his podcast will not be “Show of Resistance” During the Incoming Trump Administration and questions the liberal orthodoxy that believes President-elect Donald Trump and his activism are “abnormal.”
Tuesday’s installment of”The Ezra Klein Show” Klein responded to questions submitted by listeners. One issue focuses on Klein’s past invitations from Trump allies to appear on his show. which is what the listener thinks It is “extremely illuminating” but “normalizes the current political scene in a way that it is not.”
“Normalize MAGA, normalize Trump by having certain people on the show. Do you have any comments on that and those allegations?” Claire Gordon, Klein’s podcast editor, summed up the question.
“I don’t know what counts or doesn’t count as normal,” Klein responded. “On the one hand, I think Donald Is Trump a normal genius or very stable? I don’t think, on the other hand, he has been elected or nearly elected president three times.”

“And who is more normal? Between you, the host of the podcast in Brooklyn you’re listening to right now… or Donald Trump? I think the constant attempt to mistreat him is a way of trying not to socialize with other people. Including him,” he continued. “That doesn’t mean you don’t oppose what he did or the world his people did… There is a sentence that made me feel very clearly. Especially weaponizing the government. And I want to be very alert to that.”
“But I want it to be more clear. Don’t expect this to be an anti-show. I don’t do this. Or giving interviews like this because I’m an open-minded person. I am a reporter I’m curious. I’m trying to understand things so that I can decide for myself,” he added.
The Times reporter stressed the importance of trying to “understand” Trump and his administration’s actions. He is vehemently opposed to them, though, creating a “balance” that he may see as a challenge over the next four years.

“I think there will be things. Within the Trump administration that is directly on the path to authoritarianism. That is, he is trying to achieve what is called totalitarian development in academia. And they would be something else – maybe the State Department. Government performance or what happened to Foreign Minister Marco? Rubio or tax rate That is not the case and needs to be reported as just normal politics,” Klein said. “And this is another dimension where I think attempts to normalize into a binary — things are or are not normal — make it difficult. It is management It will rule the country for the next four years. And some are just It will be politics and policy. And some may be something else entirely.”
“And I intend to try to keep everything at its level. And the fact that one thing is happening doesn’t mean you have to cover up the other — in either direction. I think this would be a very difficult balance to strike. I did, to be honest, less so in Trump’s first administration,” he admitted.

Klein went on to outline how liberals treated the first President Trump as “illegal,” between Trump losing the popular vote in 2016, the Russia investigation, as well as continued “leaks” from the administration. Himself about “He really is crazy.”
“It’s much easier. Even for the people who reported it. to treat him abnormally Because in some ways His own administration treated him abnormally. And it seems possible that this is just a one-off fluke in American politics: The Butterfly flapped its wings and we got this. And that’s not the way it is anymore,” Klein said. “And my first job on this show was to be a good reporter. I understand that this program is an ongoing news report. And I’m not a good reporter and I don’t do a good job if I don’t report on the matter with a serious administration.”
“Let’s see what the shape looks like. Many people don’t want to talk to me. But it will not be a closed policy. Because Trump crossed the line on one issue or another – and then no more. Talk about taxes or something. It’s not the way I would work,” Klein added.
