This world must be beautiful, right? We can make this place beautiful.
No one wins the war. One side loses more slowly. Watch more dead people More tolerant of horror Victory is survival another day. This war of mine gets that. It’s been a hot second since I opened 11 bit Studios’ amazing survival game 2014, “This is what war is like for civilians,” and I wasn’t really sure what to expect. To be honest, I was a bit surprised. Seeing as This War of Mine is still getting DLC, and I find myself wondering how I feel about it now, what else can This War of Mine explore? Will it hit me that hard?
The answer is, of course, yes. Sadly, This War of Mine is as relevant as ever. That probably says something about us. It’s not you or me, it’s humanity. What we can do. and the joy we share with others. This War of Mine and the DLC Forget Celebrations are just video games. Playing doesn’t help you understand, really understand, what it means to survive in a war zone. But it makes you think about what it would be like. It makes you feel at least partially. And that’s nothing.
Remember Celebrations takes on the role of Katia, a war reporter who is trying to write a book about what happens to people in a conflict zone when a missile hits her home. Katia is injured and hopes to be rescued by the publisher. She is determined to find the remains of her book and survive in the process.
Forget the celebration, play as I remember You have a group of survivors to manage. So you need to make sure they have food, water, shelter, and the ability to defend themselves. Basically, that means chasing what you can. build a shelter and hope for the best But what makes it interesting is when things start to go wrong, do you help the person who comes to your house needing a bandage for a friend, knowing that Katia might need one herself? When you’re running low on food Will you clean up as much as you can or trade with the elderly man and his son who used to run the shop across the way? Do you risk your character’s life and steal from the local militia? What about when someone tries to steal from you?
Video games are generally designed to be defeated. There are correct answers. Good results. There are systems that you can learn and exploit to get the results you want. This War of Mine isn’t like most games. You don’t win; You survived and it came at a price. You felt it when you stole from that elderly man and his son. As you walk through the ruins of an abandoned house When your survivor is depressed, cold, injured. and worry about the future and each other And just want a damn cigarette And when the night draws near and those who robber take away what you have. And people are starting to get sick. You’ll find out who you are. Yes, Katia’s books are important, and the stories What you have put together to write is heartbreaking. But how much will it be worth? How valuable is life? What will you do to survive? Who will hurt you? Once the chips are done, it’s time to show your cards. Who are you?
There is no easy answer. in forgotten celebration Watching what other people do to each other (And learning what you might be willing to do at the worst possible moment) is painful. It should. Art shouldn’t make us comfortable. Forget celebrating because you understand that. And understand that compassion is a choice we make for others. It’s not just what happened. There is power in that choice. the best We can use it to make the world better. We are all we have Our choices and the stories we tell matter. If my time with Forget Celebrations has reminded me of anything, it’s no matter where we are. The horizon was just as far away and we all just hoped to make it to sunrise.
