Republican Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida will attend the annual Army College Football Game against Trump this weekend. Two sources familiar with the matter told Fox News.
DeSantis and Trump’s handshake – the second this month – comes as multiple sources confirm the president-elect is considering nominating the governor to be secretary of defense to replace his pick, Pete Hegseth. Trump’s current man to control the Pentagon.
The move came as Trump wrote on social media on Friday that “Hegseth is doing very well. His support is strong and profound. More than you would believe in fake news.”
DeSantis is a popular conservative governor and a Navy veteran who served in the Iraq War. It faced a bitter battle last year and early this year with Trump during the highly contested and divisive GOP presidential race. But the two Republican heavyweights appeared to be making peace after the primary, and DeSantis helped raise funds for Trump during the general election.
Trump sees DeSantis as a possible replacement for Hegseth.

DeSantis, who was re-elected in a landslide in 2022 but is term-limited and cannot run for re-election in 2026, is “substantial” in the race to succeed Hegseth, multiple sources said. with Fox News
